Innovation is a must for any organizations’ survival these days, yet few are good at it because, let’s face it, it’s hard! And what really is innovation anyway? Everyone has their own definition, so here is mine:
Imagination (or creativity) plus Commercialization =
Im + C =
Great ideas, creativity, imagination are all great – but until they are commercialized, turned into something that people or businesses want and will pay for, it’s not innovation, it’s just wonderfully creative imaginative “stuff”! So how do you innovate? Well, there is no “one” method to innovation – but there are some keys:
- Create a Culture of Innovation – this requires leadership that values, encourages and rewards innovation – a Herculean Task! However, this is the foundation upon which all the rest is built, and it is necessary to sustain innovation within an organization;
- Apply innovation at various and appropriate degrees across your offers, including services, and yes, even in operations!
- Implement!!!!! If only it were as easy as just saying that one word!
